Telehealth/Virtual Appointments

Empathy offers primarily telehealth/virtual appointments and, upon specific request, in-person appointments in our Alexandria, VA office. It is one of our core goals to increase the accessibility and effectiveness of psychiatric care and as long as our patients are experiencing positive gains and outcomes, we will continue to offer telehealth appointments.

We find adult patients enjoy the convenience of skipping traffic, parking and needing to take time off from work for psychiatric care or therapy and our pediatric and adolescent patients can be immensely more comfortable talking about difficult topics from the comfort of home. Let us know your preferences when you request an appointment.

Pediatric Mental Health

The founder of Empathy Wellness Center, Dr. Christopher Jackson, a father of a 4-year-old and an 18-month-old, brings a warm, conversational approach to each appointment. With guardians present or close by, he creates a safe environment where discussing mental health feels natural, and non-traumatic, for our youngest patients.

Many of our younger patients leave their sessions still talking excitedly about their favorite video games, school lunch options, or the latest friend circle drama—often unaware they’ve just completed a psychiatric evaluation. Parents consistently express relief, not only at how easy and stress-free the process is but also at the peace of mind that comes from knowing their child’s mental health is genuinely cared for. At Empathy, child psychiatry isn’t scary—it’s just a safe step towards overall well-being.

Adolescent Mental Health

"Dr. Christopher Jackson is particularly passionate about adolescent care, having originally pursued his psychiatry residency with the intention of specializing in care for this age group. While he’s since broadened his focus, his dedication to helping teenagers navigate their mental health remains strong. Dr. Jackson gets it—being a teenager is already hard enough without adding mental health struggles to the mix.

His approach with pre-teens and teenagers is all about building a strong rapport—so much so that even our most skeptical adolescents admit they don’t totally hate talking to him, which is high praise. By fostering a safe space for those tough conversations, Dr. Jackson ensures that teens feel heard, are more likely to stick with their treatment plans, and can see a path toward feeling their best.

Adult Mental Health

At Empathy Wellness Center, we treat adults with a patient-centered model that’s designed to meet you where you are. We combine medication management with evidence-based therapy, creating a personalized plan that fits your life—not the other way around.

Some of our patients prefer a straightforward approach, where we focus on medication and symptom management, keeping things simple and effective. Others benefit from additional support, whether that’s more regular check-ins, lifestyle adjustments, or deeper dives into therapy to learn some skills to help navigate life and minimize their symptoms.

We understand that life is busy, and mental health care shouldn’t feel like just another task to juggle. Our goal is to make your journey toward better mental health as smooth and supportive as possible because your mental health matters. There is no way to have and enjoy your life without good mental health.
